Can you imagine living in a town with 400 people? What would you do if you were a kid living in a town where the nearest neighbor is a mile away? Well, I found the answer when I moved to this town. My kids have found that answer and fortunately they are staying out of trouble and playing music.
My students are absolutely brilliant, hilarious, and creative.
They love music and go above and beyond in and outside of the classroom. My kids always come to class early, eager to learn and play with each other as a group. They will rehearse with each other in small groups before class starts. They facilitate each others' learning without my assistance. They are the drive behind the rigorous rehearsals and high expectations of the classroom.
My kids never want to leave my class and they are often tardy for their other classes. I do not condone this behavior, but it makes me happy that my kids are so comfortable and happy in my classroom.
The school is in its 5th year of school improvement, but we are currently on probation because of our successes last year. The band program was started 2 years ago and I believe that it has contributed to many of our students' successes.
My Project
As stated before, the band program is 2 years old and we are still missing necessary equipment. My bands have worked so hard this year and I would really like to take them to contest this year or next. Two of the pieces that we are playing require these materials and the nearby schools do not have these materials for us to borrow. These materials will assist with the journey of trying to bring our students to contest. The first item is a set of wind chimes that will be used in the percussion section. These wind chimes are characteristic of the piece and are needed to play the piece in a contest setting. The other two items are mallets. These mallets will be used for a variety of different percussion instruments such as xylophone, wind chimes, and a suspended cymbal. These materials can and will be reused in all of the bands for years to come.
My kids will be so excited to get these materials.
My kids are ecstatic whenever we receive a donation (I am always trying to organize fundraisers and get sponsors)! They jump up and down and yell and act like the enthusiastic children I know they are. It actually causes quite a disruption but it is totally worth it. My kids are always SO thankful for the donations we receive. They work hard and they all take very good care of the little equipment we have. Please help donate to our cause.
