Help Mrs. Sparrow Attend an Amazing Professional Development Workshop!
I need to attend the Interest-driven Coding through Scratch Jr. and Scratch Pathfinders Virtual Winter Workshop in order to better prepare my students for a success future.
My 630 K-5th grade students are eager to enter my STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Lab each week. This is a classroom where many kids experience success! My students are quite curious and enjoy asking thought-provoking questions as they discover solutions to STEAM Challenges. Although they are just beginning their education journey as elementary students, they are happy to take ownership in their role to become "future-ready".
For the majority of my students, their school day is the only exposure they have to use technology devices, yet they are fearless when coding a robot, building a structure or inventing with recycled materials.
We are a Title I school, which means that we receive financial assistance due to a high percentage of students from low-income families. This year, our school qualified for a federally-funded program that provides free breakfast and lunch to all students. Many face personal challenges outside of our learning environment. Nevertheless, they eagerly participate when in my STEAM Lab and crave new learning experiences.
My Project
As a teacher of STEAM focused students, it is important to be able to offer creative empowerment for my each child with immersive coding opportunities. The Scratch Jr app and Scratch website do just that!
Scratch Jr and Scratch weave computational thinking and creative problem solving into a teacher's everyday instructional practices.
This Professional Development opportunity teaches educators how to engage students to create and share interactive stories, animations, games, art, music and more. The curricula encourages elementary students by immersing them in practice and imaginative curricula that extends beyond coding!
This virtual opportunity to attend and participate firsthand would be a major game changer for my students. Won't you please help me to teach them and spark that innovative, creative side in them? It takes a village they say; thank you for being our great neighbor!
