My students need non-fiction books, book bins, and a caddy to store their group materials. "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself." John Dewey
I teach a curious and eager group of 6 and 7 year old's. They are sponges for knowledge! Do you remember finding that cozy spot in your classroom with your book box? I would like to extend that memory to my students with your help. Your support would touch the lives of many amazing first graders.
I have a wonderful group of first grade students.
Each one of them is a sponge absorbing all that is around them. In first grade, students explore reading with a wide range of books that fit their learning needs. It is important for children to have access to a variety of books and materials in the classroom.
I teach in a high-poverty area. Many of my students families work two or three jobs. My students and their families are wonderful and goodhearted. Many of them are refugees from Iraq, East and Central Africa. My classroom represent kids from all walks of life. I strive to build a classroom community that supports each student's academic and social well-being! I feel lucky to be their teacher and want to give them the materials they need to flourish!
This project is so important to us and it will make a huge difference in our classroom. Not only will it allow us to keep organized, but it will encourage reading on a daily basis thus improving their overall skills.
My Project
We are asking for colorful book bins to help our classroom stay organized and tidy. With these book bins, my students will have access to their individual "just right" books at their reading level.
Currently, my students are using cardboard boxes to hold their books. They are falling apart and are taped together . If students have a sturdy bin to keep their new books organized, they can in-turn be more successful.
We all learn better when we have our materials neatly organized.
I believe having book bins and caddies can help my students progress academically!
Lastly, we only have a handful of non-fiction books in my classroom. I do not have any non-fiction books that will help support my English Language Learners and lower readers.
I am asking for a variety of non-fiction books will help with my students' foundation of reading and their academic development.
Students will use these books during independent reading time to build reading comprehension and fluency skills.
Having students with non-fiction books at their reading level, sturdy book bins, and a caddy will allow me to create a more enriching and conducive learning environment!
Thank you for taking the time to support our future leaders!
