Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things fun and exciting by providing my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences and supplies.
My students are creative, clever and very curious.
They like to move, they love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and our school ensures that each of them receives a free breakfast and lunch regardless of income. From the second they walk through the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence and help them reach their full potential.
My Project
The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! My students currently do not have a pencil sharpener in the classroom that works like it should. The students will enjoy having a pencil sharpener that works whenever they need it! Students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether their materials are going to work or not. The privacy partitions will be used when the students need to take assessments or just have some time alone to think during writing time. I want them to be able to concentrate on their own stories and be able to tell their experiences through their writing.
