My students have busy lives and countless tasks, and I need to provide them with orderly (and thus time-saving) materials and classwork. The curriculum for mathematics requires my students to work with and interpret information and data in new ways including tables, diagrams, graphs, and stories. Large screens have now become a necessity.
I am extremely lucky to teach in a very large, urban, dual-mission public high school, which focuses on both the arts and academics.
My intelligent, enthusiastic, motivated, talented, creative, and hard-working students come from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic levels.
My Project
Teaching high school math remotely has been an adventure. I write on my DonorsChoose.org iPad constantly; teaching my lessons, going over problems with my students during my remote office hours, and annotating on my students' tests.
I need an assortment of stylus pens to help me teach at the highest level possible.
I use an interactive program where I can present my screen as if I were writing on the board. For example, when solving a multi-step radical equation problem, my students can see me write out each step on their screens. This way my students don’t just hear the steps, but they see the entire process live while being able to suggest steps and explanations or ask questions. Oddly, my iPencil doesn’t react well with this program, and it becomes quite frustrating to use as I teach. However, it seems to work with the free and cheap stylus that I have. Unfortunately, the writing pad at the tip of the pen is about to break off, and I need replacements. I know these styli often don’t last long, especially with the amount of writing I do, so I need these stylus pens to get me through to June.
