This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach a group of eager and dedicated Black and Brown scholars from the South Bronx. They are extremely intelligent and motivated as evident by the progress this group has demonstrated during their tenure at our school. My class currently ranks number 1 in the network. We want to continue to be the number 1 high performing grade 7 math class, by using research-based strategies to nurture our scholars love for mathematics. The strategies my co-teacher and I have executed, aided in creating a math class that's engaging and high performing. We would like to enhance our strategies through the utilization of technology, to reduce the teacher to student ratio, and to maintain a student centered classroom.

My Project

I am using my classroom as a platform to empower my scholars to utilize and apply the mathematical content that's being imparted onto them to start a small crafting business.

The iPad and Canon camera will be used to help our scholars create 21st century marketing material that will be used to promote the products and services our scholars will be providing to their consumers.

The money raised through our scholars' small business will be used to purchase a classroom set of tablets, thus transforming our classroom into a paperless digital class. Your donation will serve as a catalyst to creating a culturally responsive mathematics class that equips scholars with essential skillsets that can be used to navigate the world.
