This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Did you know that Americans purchase nearly 3 billion batteries every year? Sadly most people throw their used batteries into the trash, which means they end up in our landfills. Do you know what happens to them there?
I am a 4th grade teacher in a Title 1 school in California.
I teach a 70/30 class, which means I teach the students that are transitioning from a bilingual education to an English only education. Most of my students are low income and are part of the free or reduced lunch program. My school is now a Program Improvement school with “hard working” students. We are fortunate to have lots of great gadgets in our classroom that require batteries but our school can not afford to replace them. The students have learned to do the best that they can with their limited resources, but their parents are struggling due to the economic times, and they also can not afford to donate batteries to my classroom for my students to be able to use technology in the classroom.
My Project
Did you know that only 1 out of 5 batteries being used in the world is rechargeable? My classroom alone needs many batteries daily to operate. We need batteries to run: our class set of AlphaSmarts(mini-word processors), individual CD players (for listening to books on CD), individual responders, remote controls, and timers. Wouldn't it be nice to also be GREEN while using our technological gadgets? I am requesting 46 rechargeable batteries and 3 chargers. These rechargeable batteries will help reduce waste in our landfills and help reduce pollution in our environment. Please help us save money and be GREEN.
With your help funding the rechargeable batteries and chargers, we will no longer be throwing away expensive batteries and ruining the environment.
My students can begin their GREEN journey and start reducing their carbon footprints.
