This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach music to Pre-kindergarten through fifth grade students in a high need, urban school district. Over 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. At our school we are trying to develop programs to help students expand their minds and their horizons.
Most of our students are unable to afford to participate in music lessons outside of school. Our students are very excited about learning to play the guitar. Unfortunately due to budget cuts our school is unable to purchase new equipment for the music program.
Most of our students are hands on learners. Putting guitars into the hands of our students will allow us to provide engaging and exciting instructional opportunities. They really enjoy our music program, adding guitars will enable us to add a new dimension to our program.
The guitar program will help us to reach students in ways that we are unable to do in the regular classroom. By donating to our project you are not only investing in the community, you are investing in the future. Please help me "strike a chord" in the hearts and minds of the next generation.
