Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a Title I school in downtown Phoenix. What does this mean? It means that many of my students come to school hungry. It means that many of my students wear hand-me-downs from older brothers and sisters. It also means that my students can come to school with a lot of emotional baggage.
Though my students come to school already behind emotionally and academically, they want to learn so bad.
They do not understand the challenges they face and that is a good thing. My job as their teacher is to push them to their limits and help them succeed.
Kindergarten is such an important year as it sets students up for their educational future. I want to fill their minds with images and scenarios that they could have never imagine existed. I want to give them as much exposure to the real-world that I possibly can. They are our future!
My Project
In order for my students learn, they need to visually see what is being read to them. My current easel has seen better days and wibbles and wobbles like an old worn out toy.
I want an easel that allows all my students to see the book no matter where they are sitting on the carpet.
The whiteboard in the back will let me write important ideas and key details from the story. It will also allow students to come up to the big book and show what they have learned.
The holding tray at the bottom will hold the book so I won't need to hold it in my lap and try to read upside down.
