I need the Teaching Reading Source book, The Next Step Forward in Guided Reading and Happy Teachers Change the World because as an intervention teacher both of these resources will help me plan intervention lessons.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher in a Title I elementary school in the South Bronx. Most of the students that I service qualify for free lunch and are English language learners. As a reading intervention teacher, I specifically work with students that are reading a grade level or more below the rest of the third grade student population. They struggle in completing tasks during whole group instruction and at times become withdrawn or engage in disruptive behaviors that may impede in their learning and the learning of the rest of the students in the class.
Tapping into a child's strengths is the key to igniting the process of building confidence in a learner!
Once this process begins my students redefine who they are as learners. They evolve into students that become interested in topics presented and formulate connections. Slowly, they begin to redefine their academic experiences. Despite their life circumstances they become determined to make progress in literacy, celebrate their growth verses focusing on how many levels they are away from grade level.
My Project
The role of an intervention teacher is two fold. I find that with most students that are reading significantly below grade level also lack confidence and engagement. It is my job to use data to design lessons that specifically address the needs of the students that I am servicing. The Teaching Reading Source Book and the books by Jan Richardson are professional resources that I would use to plan strategy lessons that either help students to develop decoding or comprehension skills.
Besides addressing students' academic needs I need to address students' emotional needs.
The book Happy Teachers Change the World is a resource I would use to ensure that I foster an environment that supports both my needs and the needs of the students. As a result, I will be able to encourage students to take risk and persevere through lessons in a positive and encouraging manner.
