My Students
My band students are mostly from poor families that can barely afford food and clothing, much less school supplies or instruments. We live in an extremely rural area and although my students dream of going places, without tools that can help them learn, they will not succeed.
Amazingly, they have some of the biggest, most caring hearts I have ever seen.
They work with each other, talk through their problems and everyone of them has a desire to do the best that they can.
My Project
We have very old trumpets in our band program. The valves stick, the slides haven't worked for over ten years, and some spit valves are missing. Utilizing the plastic trumpet is an affordable way that my students can play working instruments. These trumpets will be used by children who otherwise can't afford an instrument.
I hate turning children away from playing the trumpet.
It's a very popular instrument, and very important to the concert band. Adding these two requested plastic trumpets to our band means that more students will be able to play trumpet and succeed. I have had many students who are disheartened because they do not have a good working instrument to perform on.
