This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher and I teach a kindergarten, self-contained class. My students have varied disabilities ranging from speech and language delays, cognitive delays, gross/fine motor delays, to autism.

I am a special education teacher and I teach a preschool, self-contained class. My students have varied disabilities ranging from speech and language delays, cognitive delays, gross/fine motor delays, to autism.
We spend our day doing many activities to help the students learn and develop skills they are delayed in. One of the biggest skills my students lack is play and imagination. Some of my students rather play by themselves and do not know how to use toys and materials in a creative way as other children do. We need materials that will help us put our imagination to work and allow the students to play and interact with each other.
My Project
My students need dress up clothes and kitchen materials such a coffee maker and mixer. With the dramatic costume set I ordered, my students will be able to use their imagination as they dress up and pretend with each other. The students will be be able to use materials that are meaningful to them, as they learn how to pretend play. They will be able to start up conversations with each other and role play. The costumes will also help me extend on a lesson about the community.
Donations to this request will make a big difference in my classroom.
My students will have realistic materials to help them with imaginative play. This will be a great tool for me to help the children engage in pretend play with their friends.
