My students are excited by art and would like to create some of their own.
I teach Art to high school students in a small rural school district in Georgia where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch.
We have received supplies though Donors Choose in the past but we have used them up and we often work with used canvas board that we paint over. The school system has built a much-needed new school and there are very limited funds for the art program. It's not that the system doesn't want to support art; the money is just not there.
My students are bright and interested in art. We just do not have the funds to offer them the variety of experiences that I would like.
My Project
The world outside my art room window is in color and my students' artworks should be too! I recently asked my students what they wanted to do that we had not done and they said they wanted to paint. My students will be excited to use the watercolor, like "real" artists. They will also be thrilled to use our acrylic paints on a real canvas panel.
These materials will encourage them to stretch their imaginations to make their ideas come to life.
They need to experience using color to be able to commit that "aha" moment to canvas.
You will make it possible for my students to push their artistic experiences beyond their presently limited ones.
Your help does make a difference! Color media and new materials will spark my students' interest in art and in their creative selves.
