Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a third-grade teacher in East New York, Brooklyn. Over 90 percent of the students in our school receive free lunch. Math can be either the best part of a student's day or the worst part of their day. It is up to me to make it the best part of the day. At the same time, I need to prepare the students for state tests they will encounter every year. To start with, the Daily Math Station would be an ideal way to have daily review, extra practice, and standardized-test practice. It features 150 skill-building math problems covering seven key skill areas. The students would first answer these questions on their own and then would be able to share their strategies later in the day. Also, Math Vocabulary Rings give students extra practice with math vocabulary they need to master. The students would be able to quiz each other to learn the math vocabulary. Games may be played with the cards to encourage vocabulary building in math. Finally, Test Prep Math Rings get students ready for standardized tests with skill-building question cards. The rings cover all the NCTM math standards. Each item would allow my students to become more confident in math.
