My Students

Do you remember getting hooked on a series of books or a new popular writer as a tween or teen? My students share with me that excitement and joy of waiting for the newest books to arrive in the library. My students are inquisitive, voracious readers who are craving to discover the newest adventures and drama in their favorite new books.

My students are book-lovers, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners.

Students at my school are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative. I am the librarian at a 6-8 middle school in a suburban area of Utah. I find literature as one great way to help kids understand the wider world around them and experience new cultures and ideas. Our school library is an essential resource for my students; I think of the library as a refuge from the hurt and insecurity that middle school often is. Books are often this same type of refuge for them. Each day students inquire when the newest books by their favorite authors will be added to the library and if they can be first to check out these books. There is a buzz about books and an excitement for reading in our library.

My Project

Our school's Book Club has been going well, but I know we could do even better. I think if a portion of the books I purchase for next year's Book Club could go directly to students, it would increase the excitement for this fun after-school program.

These books will support not only our school library, but will also help students build at-home libraries.

I think we all remember those special books we got from (for example) the Book Fair. This is one way to support that at-home excitement for a book!
