Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I remember several times during my schooling career when I just 'got something '- really understood a concept! It was an awesome feeling to know that someone knew me well enough to teach in a way that I could actually learn...and remember!

My students are my greatest source of encouragement and inspiration.

I encourage them to do and be better and they challenge me to continue find innovative ways to reach their unique needs. Because of my students encouragement, I can not imagine doing anything else with my life! My students attend a inner-city public school in California, in a Special Day Class. While we are often short of money, my school has created a culture of learning and innovation and a 'do the best with what you have' attitude. I have never heard a student complain about anything, but I still strive to give my students the very best. My students are inquisitive and generous, kind and determined ; I have never been surrounded by better people.

My Project

A document camera will help meet the needs of my Special Education students. Special Education embodies what education should be :Individualized. I have a group of students with a range of abilities and gifts. Each student has his/her own way of learning, a way that he or she best processes information. A document camera will help in the classroom because I will be able to meet the needs of my visual and aural learners. Since students will be able to both see and hear information, I will be able to spend more time with individuals that need additional support and accommodations. When my students are able to process information they will be more likely to learn AND remember, meaning that they will be on track to success...and COLLEGE! A document camera will also allow me to do station teaching and work with students with similar needs, while individual students use the document camera to learn as well. I will be teaching my students how to learn without me!

Please support me in my genuine efforts to close the GAP WITHIN THE GAP -which is Special Education.

My students have the same brain potential as non-identified students, they just have very specific learning styles that need to be met. Special Education teaching is what teaching should be, it is teaching at its best. I want to support my students so that they are able to compete with their peers of the same age. I MUST equip them with the ability to teach themselves and how they best learn.
