My Students

My students are very diverse from a variety of socioeconomic levels. I teach STEM to grades 6-8 at a middle school. In STEM, we use the engineering design process to produce original ideas, objects, and structures according to certain specifications using concepts and skills from math, science, and technology. We also spend time learning coding and developing other technology skills. My classroom includes students with a great variety of skills and diverse backgrounds. I love working with these students because of the different perspectives they bring to the classroom.

My Project

Microsoft MakeCode brings computer science to life for all students with fun projects, immediate results, and both block and text editors for learners at different levels. Help me learn all these applications so that I may share them with my students.

Coding is such an important activity for students because it teaches them critical thinking skills, to collaborate with each other, and perseverance in the face of failure.

This opportunity will allow me to become proficient in using the variety of block and text programming so that I may prepare my students for their own projects.

Students will get the opportunity to try a greater variety of activities because I will learn a lot of new resources from this professional development at the Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.
