Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My four and five-year-old students attend a high priority public school in a very diverse location. They start working the minute they enter the classroom. They are expected to take online tests, learn the entire alphabet and all letter sounds, begin reading leveled books, and count to 100 by June.
Our school is a Title I Public Elementary School.
The majority of our students come from low income households. Many of them are learning English as a second language. Some have not had any exposure to school prior to Kindergarten. They are enthusiastic and eager to learn!
My Project
My Kindergarten students are so excited to learn! They are mastering foundational reading skills at a very advanced level! I want to keep them motivated, but the majority of the fun learning games in my classroom are for early reading skills. I need advanced learning games that will help me to begin introducing vowel teams, multisyllabic words, and word building in a fun way!
We rotate through small reading groups at two different times throughout the school day.
One of those blocks of time is for phonics instruction. My advanced group would be so excited to learn new skills in a fun and challenging way!
