My students need basic school supplies like dry erase boards, erasers, markers and colored pencils just to do the everyday learning activities in our classroom!
I teach at a Title I school where over 75% of our students qualify for free and reduced-priced lunches. My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Many face a home life without both parents. Because we live in such a rural area, in some cases, the parent/parents are unable to find full-time employment.
Don't let life's circumstances fool you-my students are bright and eager to learn!
They are ready to explore the world around them, even though their world may be different than other students from more affluent neighborhoods.
These children are our future, and I don't want their circumstances and our rural school's declining budget to define who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing in life.
My Project
My students need the materials that I have selected to enjoy an enriching and engaging 2nd grade year! Our dry erase boards won't even erase now. They have been used for several years now. I bought erasers for the boards at the first of the year, but they have long since wore out.
We use dry erase boards to work out math problems, spell new words and practice our handwriting.
It adds some variety to everyday tasks! My students love to use colored pencils to color with as well! We don't get to color as much as we would like, but when we do, colored pencils are our first choice.
