Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school a Title 1 school where the majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch. I am currently the 3rd grade inclusion teacher with 31 amazing learning from all walks of life. Our inclusion program allows students with special needs (both physical and learning disabilities) to mainstream into a general education classroom with added supports. Our class has a wide range of learning needs which are met not only by the teachers and aides working with the students but by the students supporting and helping each other through struggles. We are not only a class but a family!
My Project
Small group rotations is a favorite part of our day for both students and the teacher. We work on spelling, reading, comprehension and writing during our time together. The letters allow students to physically manipulate letters to create words. The white boards and markers engage students to give written responses while allowing the teacher to informally assess their understanding. The size of the white boards are small enough to be used with the baskets so each individual student has their supplies organized and ready to use daily.
Engagement is key because when kids are engaged and having fun that's when they learn best.
These tools make the learning fun by allowing students to be hands on by manipulating and writing. Their engagement keeps them accountable for their part during each lesson. Fun learning is the best learning for both students and teachers and small group instruction with the right supplies is good for everyone participating in the learning process.
