Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When I think about going to school, I think about tons of textbooks, hours of research in the library and a lot of frustration from not actually finding what I need. My goal this year is to provide my students with anything and everything they will need to be successful. For the first time, my students will be tested online in math. The unfortunate part is these students do not have the resources available to practice and get comfortable.
Our students come from low-income households that require them to take on a lot more than any eight year old should have to.
This year, because of Hurricane Maria, I have also received many students from Puerto Rico. Because of the daily struggles my students face, I want them to feel like the only thing they have to worry about is being the best student they can be. I want them to feel like they are ready for anything and everything that is thrown at them. I don't want them to look back and feel like their elementary years were frustrating and unfair because the expectations were too high to reach.
My Project
These resources will help me to learn more about the Common Core Curriculum guide and FSA expectations. I want to be able to plan meaningful lessons to help prepare my students in all areas. These books will introduce new ways of teaching, conversing and problem solving. Explore like a pirate will allow me to create games in my classroom that are curriculum and behaviorally based. The common core guide shows the break down of standards and creates better ways of teaching the skills. Math talks helps to create better everyday conversations that are meaningful and respectful. I want my students to see that I am giving one hundred percent to them and their learning. If I can find new ways to reach my students, then I can also share new ideas and techniques with my colleagues. With your help, these books will help me to find news ways to get my students the tools and strategies they need to be successful.
