Although my students are considered elementary, middle, or high school aged, most only read at a lower elementary level. My students face many challenges, more so than the norm, and even though our county and school strive to keep us supplied with everything we need, sometimes things fall through the cracks. Many of our students don't have enough uniforms, and many have continence issues and need frequent clothes changes.
We are a special public school that caters to K-12, and we have the most challenged students in our district.
Some may be Autistic, some have severe emotional disorders, and many had very rough beginnings. It is especially important that we can wash their clothes and give them dignity through their clean clothes. It shows them love, and they really appreciate being in clean and dry.
My Project
When my students come to school, many times their clothes are dirty and they have no way to wash them. Some of our parents are homeless, without basic utilities, or simply without laundry facilities. Also, some of our students have issues with using the restroom, thus they may need frequent clothes changes. We currently don't have a washer and dryer to help them maintain their clothes.
Clean clothes help the students to be more comfortable and healthy.
It also helps them to focus on their work. Many of them already have many distractions and disabilities, clean clothes shouldn't be one of them.
