My students need a classroom mailbox, 3 ring binders, tab dividers, paper, and other necessary classroom materials to become organized, successful students.
My school is considered an inner school. Students in my class come from very diverse backgrounds from all sections of our city. Many are bused into school and others are walkers. Regardless of their backgrounds, they enter my classroom smiling and motivated to learn. English is not the first language of approximately 40 percent of my students and over 65 percent are categorized as low income.
These energetic and amazing students want to succeed and work hard every day to achieve success.
The majority of my students have 100% attendance. They are sad when we have snow days because they enjoy learning in my classroom.
My Project
It is important that students learn to stay organized with their books, binders, and school supplies so that they are able to access the materials easily at school. When they arrive at school, they need a safe spot to store their materials. At the end of the day they need a place to find their corrected work and important notices. Classroom mailboxes would be the best way to achieve this. Every day I model in my classroom the importance being organized.
I have always told my students, the key to becoming a successful student begins with organization.
The use of a three ring binder with coded tabs will keep all of their work in a safe and organized place. As we work in class the use of easel Post-it pads will enable students to work with peers and create classroom jigsaw note taking. While reading textbooks students will use sticky notes to mark important information as they read. Through the use of all these organizational skills my students will become successful and feel like an organized student making their studying easier.
