My Students

My classroom is a wonderful place that stimulates learning. Students are engaged in meaningful activities that are interesting and require critical thinking and problem solving.

I teach 3rd grade at a school on the outskirts of Savannah.

The school is in a suburban area with various types of students. Our area is home to many military families since there is a base nearby. This makes my school a transient school. There are many students who receive free and/or reduced lunch. We serve a large demographic of children. Our school is a K-8 school housing over 1,500 children. On my grade level alone, there are 10 classes. This is typical of the elementary classrooms. We have about 25 students per class. The school is growing by the minute. My classroom is composed of a mixed group. It serves as the inclusion classroom of the grade level. There are students in my classroom who struggle with many different disabilities. I also have the other end of the spectrum, exceptional learners or gifted children. These students need to constantly be challenged. They are so intelligent.

My Project

My students will use that materials provided in a variety of ways. The books and videos ordered will help the students understand and remember the information taught. They are supplements to the common core curriculum. As a new teacher, I have spent hundreds of dollars of my own money getting basic supplies such as tissues, hand sanitizer, etc. This has left me little money to buy materials to supplement the curriculum. In third grade, we read different common core literature. I currently do not have any of the books that I need to teach the units provided to me. This project will provide me with books such as Because of Winn Dixie, And Then What Happened Paul Revere, and Mr. Popper's Penguins. In social studies, we study American Heroes. I currently do not have any resources to teach about these amazing people. The books ordered will make learning about these figures interesting to students. The math materials in this project will help my students understand the math concepts taught.

This project will make a difference in the lives of my students.

They will walk away with memories of the skills and lessons they've learned because of the engaging materials that were used to present the information. As a child, certain things stick with you. When a teacher displays the information in a way that is fun and interactive, children are more likely to retain what is being taught. Without materials, learning is less interactive, engaging, and fun.
