I work with students who are intellectually disabled. Most of my students are also on free or reduced lunch.
My students struggle in academic areas, but all have outstanding character and personality.
My students give more in one class period than some general education students give all day. They know what hard work is and they want to learn. They just need a little extra time to catch on and help to comprehend a skill.
In addition to their character, they are also very active students. I frequently do brain breaks and allow my students to stand at their work area, instead of sit. This helps them release energy and focus on the task at hand. I would like to offer them more options than just standing and sitting on classroom chairs.
I work with my students in their general education class as well as my special education classroom. We work on everything from identifying letters to multiplication. What I teach is based on each student's needs.
I would like to offer my students another way to help them stay in their work area and focus on their learning.
They area very busy little people and I believe that flexible seating would help them stay focused and in their areas. It also helps promote their self-awareness and student choice. Please help me offer my students another option besides standing, sitting on the floor or sitting in classroom chairs.
