My Students

Imagine moving to a new country. You walk into a classroom and you may not have ever had any formal education before. You have never read or written and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are the students I teach. I work in a large inner-city school with 100% receiving free lunch and breakfast.

Many of my students have very limited schooling in their own language and are now thrust into a formal school setting.

We move from learning letters to reading very quickly. My students have come from all around the world, from many different and often difficult situations.

My Project

I have had the same carpet for at least 6 years in my classroom. There are holes, the sides are frayed and it is worn thin! My students are constantly complaining about how they can feel the cold floor beneath them. I would love for my students to start the school year with a brand new comfortable rug.

My students love to work on the floor and spread out.

The designated circles for them to sit when doing whole group will help limit distractions and fighting over spots!

A new rug will compliment the flexible seating bundle that will be arriving in the fall!
