My Students

I teach in a Title I school where 100% of the students receive a free lunch. My second grade students face many challenges and insecurities in their daily lives, including poverty, homelessness, and incarcerated parents. School is a place where they can experience the joys of learning, friendship, and the safety of a daily routine.

Despite their adversities, my students come to school every day, eager to learn.

I am always looking for fresh and innovative ways to inspire them to reach their goals!

My Project

Every year, I have several students in my class with autism, anxiety, and attention issues. Watching their daily struggle to sit and pay attention, focus on a task, or to simply feel calm and secure has made me want to find ways to help them.

I have found that one way to help students with autism, anxiety, and attention issues is a weighted lap pad.

Health professionals and therapists recommend weighted lap pads to calm the nervous system. I am requesting five weighted lap pads. These would be used for specific students to put on their laps during whole group lessons and also during independent work time.
