Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in New Britain, CT with 4th grade students. Each student brings his/her own unique challenge and comes from a different background. They have a great sense of humor and love experiencing success, however they have many obstacles in their way. Attendance is a huge problem, along with parent engagement. I feel this project will be a great way to connect parents and motivate students. I cannot expect my students to demonstrate success, if I am unable to and my main obstacle is technology. My current laptop does not transfer material correctly and is old/outdated.
My students can be successful and want to do well, but most people write them off.
They need a little extra support and motivation to succeed in and out of the classroom and I have been trying to incorporate videos/creative assignments, but I cannot properly do this with my current laptop. When I go to transfer into my virtual classroom, it formats incorrectly. This is becoming a daily struggle.
My Project
This laptop will help me from doing double the work. Currently, I have to create material and then reformat the material because it is not compatible. Many of my students are using Apple iPhones and tablets so they are having trouble seeing what I am creating. I have been having to create, reformat, share, then correct and reformat again.
This helps gives my classroom and students a virtual chance.
They will gain access to many videos and material that I cannot currently provide on my laptop. It s hard enough being away from my classroom and students, so this added technology would help me bring students up to speed.
