My Project

This project is designed to help my sensational students better connect with the world around them. I first discovered PostCrossing when I was their age, and received postcards from around the world that I cherish to this day. PostCrossing gives people around the world the opportunity to send and receive postcards. While the website itself is free to use, the cost of postcards and postage can be daunting for my students. I want to take that hesitation away from them so they can engage with something I have loved for years.

Many of my students have never even received mail before, can you imagine the joy they will feel getting a postcard for them from across the world?

You can play a part in that joy! 70% of my students have a learning disability of some kind. For them, practicing and maintaining their penmanship and literacy is very important. Too often, my students forgo writing on paper because they would rather type. The opportunity to write messages to people away from a computer screen would be huge for their development.

Working at a school with 100% of students at or below the poverty line, it means not all of my students will experience the joy of traveling to new countries.

Many of my students will never leave the United States. I believe PostCrossing will help them see through writing what they might not see in person. Staying in one place can influence your view of the world and the people around you. I want my students to have the ability to look at the world through eyes that are not their own. I am counting on you to help me create memories my students will have their entire lives!
