Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I absolutely loved teaching 3rd grade, but I am thrilled for this new challenge of teaching Kindergarten during the 2021-2022 school year. Kindergarteners are eager to learn, play, and create new relationships. They grow tremendously throughout their first year of school; I can't wait to watch this magic happen!
My school resides in a neighborhood where many of the families are immigrants and speak languages other than English.
Many of the students enter school speaking little to no English, but are excited to learn the language (and teach me about the languages they speak at home and with their families!). Their different cultures help make my classroom a diverse learning space for all. While they all come from very different backgrounds and home lives, they are all the same in their dedication to school and learning.
My Project
I created this project to fulfill the basic needs of a Kindergarten classroom. Kindergarten is many students' first year of formal education, so it is important that I create a positive, inviting experience to ensure students are excited to come back to school the next day... the next week... the next year!
The items will allow me to create a learner-centered environment for these very deserving students.
I am extremely excited about the age-appropriate read alouds and student books to support students in creating a love for reading. This cart also includes some early Math and Literacy necessities that will be used during small group learning time, such as magnetic letters and foam dice, and items to allow me to create a comfortable and inviting classroom for these students on their first day of school. Lastly, this cart includes some flexible seating options to provide students with choices that will best support their learning needs. I am confident that this cart will allow me to create a learner-centered environment for these very deserving students.
