Computers are now the primary means of composing and arranging music, and with proper software, it is possible to create extremely realistic sounding audio examples from computerized music.
We have been using Finale (a music composition software platform) for several years to create music for our groups.
Percussion instruments are the most versatile as far as the variety of different sounds available, as well as the sheer number of possible tones that can be produced. Our students are quite advanced in their abilities to perform complex percussion music, and often when we write music for them we have to have them "guess" what it will sound like because of limitations in the music software we currently possess.
My Project
By acquiring the new "virtual drumline" software, we can now create music that will sound exactly like what we intend it to sound like. This will allow students and designers alike to give the students the best possible aural model of what we intend the performed music to sound like. Technology is a brave new frontier in education. we all want our students to have an "edge" in this highly competitive world... therefore we need to work to acquire the best tools for our students to use to achieve success. In music, it is no different.
I have had some very talented students over the years and some have gone on to careers in music.
I have always tried to get the best technology for them to use so that they can have some experience with it, and hopefully give them a leg up when they enter the workforce.
