Help Me Create a Makerspace Phase II

My Students

Our school resides in a large, urban district. While the neighborhoods are trending in economic gain, our schools still suffer from suburbia migration and the education deficit that that the movement left in the wake.

Our science students are so excited to use inquiry to create and solve problems!

My students have so many great ideas and deserve all the STEM learning resources that I can deliver to them. They could be the next tech innovators if only given the tools.

My Project

Why save STEM projects for after school? I want to create a Middle School Maker Space for Center for Inquiry #27. My vision is that this will grow into it's own space and serve all of the students (pre K- 8) someday soon.

Indiana state science standards generously allow for engineering in the classroom in 6th, 7th and 8th grades and we need the goods to implement!

After much (fun) research on Makerspaces, I have learned storage is key. The Seville Classics 5-Tier Steel Wire Shelving /w Wheels and plastic storage bins will be perfect for holding student projects. Being on wheels is important for storage and moving to other parts of our school building. It will also help me teach valuable organizational skills which is really important for project sustainability.

I have included the BLACK+DECKER LDX120C 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Drill/Driver, drill bits and screws for projects that will require attaching wood or plastic parts (so many projects). Popsicle sticks, magnets and duct tape are used in such inventive ways by my student makers. The wire and wire cutters will also prove invaluable for connections and conductions.
