Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the reason I get up in the morning with a smile on my face; I am excited to work with them every day. They motivate me to be a better teacher. Throughout the year, I want to help them as much as I possibly can by bringing math to life and providing them with new opportunities.
I want to provide the best learning environment I possibly can, where students look forward to going to class every day and are sad to leave at the end of the class period.
I teach at a Title I school, meaning the majority of my students are economically disadvantaged. Even with the hardships they go through my students have the biggest hearts in the world. They are always wanting to help each other and even provide a lending hand to adults around the school. I am extremely blessed to work with the students that I do.
My Project
I encourage my students to move around my classroom in order to find the best place for them to complete their work. Sometimes that means I have students laying all over my cold floor because they want to be able to stretch their legs, while others remain at their desks.
The rug, pillows, and clipboards will help provide an area that instantly brings warmth and comfort into my classroom.
I chose pillow cases that have affirmations on them because sometimes we need to see an affirmation to be uplifted to keep going on with the day and I truly hope these pillow cases will provide my students with what they need on a rough day. The pillow cases also provide an opportunity for me to quickly wash them throughout the year as they just slip on the pillows chosen for this project.
The clipboards will allow my students to sit and/or lay in any position and still have a harder surface to be able to complete their work. They wouldn't have to worry about kneeling in front of a desk or laying on the cold floor to get the needed surface.
