My Students

I'm an elementary school counselor and I work at a school with about 615 students. The students come from a variety of backgrounds. We have a military base nearby which brings in children of different races, religions, and economic statuses.

Because of the changing world, the COVID pandemic, and different issues at home and school the students are dealing with, many students are having a hard time coping with their emotions.

It's difficult to learn when their emotions are so out of control. These students often have a hard time at school and are in need of extra support and learning.

My Project

Here at school we are seeing a wide range of emotions that are more intense since COVID-19. There are many students with anger issues, anxiety issues, negativity, and home issues. Many are struggling in coming to school and many are struggling with their emotions and behaviors while in school.

Books and Games are great resources that will help me in teaching students how to cope with their wide range of emotions so they are more able to learn while in class.

As a Counselor, I will be using the books and games in lessons in classrooms and also in individual and group counseling to help students in calming themselves down and coping when they are having a hard time. The calming items and rewards will be used to give students incentives to positively calm themselves.

The Combination Locks are for 6th graders transitioning to Jr. High to practice opening lockers. Being able to open lockers is one of the biggest sources of anxiety for students as they move into Jr. High.
