My Students

Didn't you always HATE doing math problems on the board? Now imagine having high anxiety and low frustration tolerance... it can be even more terrifying and embarrassing. Help me solve this problem for my students!

My students have led tough lives and are now receiving services for serious emotional and behavioral problems.

Though they are bright and capable students, life can be overwhelming and there are days in which they think they're destined to fail. In the past, school has felt pointless and irrelevant for many of my students, but I intend to change this. In my classroom, we use technology and to inspire students to think, question, and create. The more dynamic and engaging my lessons are, the more motivated my students are to learn and the more success they are able to experience!

My Project

It's extremely important that students are able to share their thought processes and work during math class. However, having my students go to the board to work on their problems often triggers high anxiety and avoidance behaviors. At times, I've been able to photocopy student work to share with the class the next day, however sometimes the "teachable moment" is lost. Since we use an LCD projector to project the day's math problems onto the board, it'd be wonderful to be able to instantly scan interesting or exemplary student work so that my class can share their work and discuss how their classmates attacked their problems. I find that my students are proud to display and talk about their work and are motivated to have their work selected to be shared.

It's vital that my students are able to share their work with each other, but I need to eliminate the torturous task of standing in front of the class and doing problems on the board.

Technology is out there to help my students feel comfortable and confident when sharing, we just need your help to get our hands on it!
