Help me give my students a document camera which will provide a large visual display to build text to self connections.

The students in my classroom, come through that door everyday so excited to hear the adventures of some of their most beloved characters. As a reading specialist and 1st grade teacher, I know the importance of developing their interest in a good book and making life-long readers. Then I use these characters throughout the year to teach a variety of concepts and social-emotional skills.
My school has adopted the moto: "Every minute matters!"And it really does for each and everyone of them. My school serves students in a large urban public school system in the state of Ohio. Our families live below the poverty line and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many struggle to achieve proficiency in Math and Reading. Fortunately, we refuse to give up on them and our primary grade team has pledged to make every minute matter, with every single student, every single day!
Think back when you were in the primary grades and would gather around the teacher to listen to him/her read a favorite story. You always wanted to be seated up front right next to the teacher, so you could clearly see all the pictures. I want my students to all have that opportunity to see the characters and rich text of classic literature. Plus, I want to encourage my emergent readers opportunities to read along with familiar text.
Having a document camera to project the page on the big screen will immediately provide access to all my students.
It will allow them to see the illustrations and make those important connections between the text and themselves. Students will immediately see the book on the screen and can read along. They will see how texts are written and how reading builds writing and writing builds reading!
