Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are nine joyful and lively students with autism. They are eager to learn. They love to use technology. Their disability impacts their ability to access the general education curriculum. All students are under-served and of low socioeconomic status and qualify for free meal benefits. The classroom is composed of 1 TK female student and 8 kindergarten students (7 males and 1 female). My students' preferred learning styles are visual and kinesthetic. My special day classroom students surprise me with their progress and achievements every day.
My Project
The benefits of having an interactive smart board and/or a calm down space in a classroom of students with autism are endless. However, my students currently can not fully benefit from these resources due to the lack of a few required classroom accommodations and adaptations. Your donation will allow me to provide my students the necessary accommodations/adaptations so my students with autism can fully access their curriculum, comply with their learning styles, and meet their individual education plan goals.
Play it safe while helping students with autism reach the interactive smart board and practice self-regulation!
Our classroom has an amazing resource which is an interactive smart board. However, my students currently can not access the smart board features because they can not reach the smart board. Due to my students special needs we need a step that provides secure and sturdy access to the interactive smart board with handrails on the sides to offer additional security and safety. Many of my students engage in self-injury behaviors such as head banging. Therefore, we need a child-sized beanbag chair for the calm down corner so my students can safely sit and snuggle while practicing self-regulatory skills. The weighted lap pad will add support because it is perfect for students who have the "wiggles," as its soothing weight provides a reminder to stay in place.
