Help Making Visual Supports for Preschool Students with Special Needs

My Project

I work with young students with special needs in a preschool setting. Most of my students are three years old whose eyes sparkle whenever they step into school. They are my biggest motivation to be the teacher I am today, who will continue advocating for their rights. They are giving us hope and belief for a better world, and that is what makes them so precious and special.

COVID-19 has been making an unpleasant impact on many children, especially children with special needs.

Many students were spending time in virtual classrooms. Teachers could not 100% deliver the materials or support students' needs. Young children with special needs learn better when they can have real-life interaction with teachers, peers, and hands-on experiences. Those are visual and sensible learning moments that COVID-19 has been limiting. Moreover, because of COVID-19, many students have to stay at home for safety and away from the classroom. Many of them do not have the materials and supports they need to sustain an ongoing learning opportunity.

I am requesting a printer and ink bottles for this project. With these resources, I will be able to make visual supports for my students. Young students learn better when there are visual aids. These resources can help me create a lot of those such as expectation visuals, emotions cards, calm-down strategy cards, choice boards, visual schedule, social stories, etc. I will also create these visuals and send them to students’ families so that I can build continuing support between school and home.
