Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at our school come from diverse backgrounds. The school is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn which is an area undergoing gentrification. The students are exposed to different cultures from interactions with their peers. Our school is a comprehensive learning community dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially. All students will receive an education that places a premium on relationships, engagement with the wider community, and scholarship. The school is always finding new ways to engage the students in physical activity.
My Project
My students need soccer balls, beach balls, playground balls, jump ropes and other physical fitness items to improve their gross motor skills. The modified apparatus will also assist with visual tracking. The balance beams will help our students improve their core strength and balance. The vestibular boards will be instrumental in enhancing students' mobility and spatial body awareness. They will be able to learn about their bodies' position in space, with an awareness of their movements.
As children continue to view technology as their main source of play, allowing the use of these tools will strengthen and support their overall physical fitness.
