This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The first step is always the hardest, but one step can make all the difference. My kindergarten students are taking their first step in their education and it is my mission to make it their best one.
I am being moved from a second grade class to a kindergarten class within the week and desperately need to restock my classroom library and literacy supplies.
Many of my students have not been to preschool so their experience in my classroom will be their first experience in school. During their first year, it is crucial that I ignite their love for learning to keep them motivated in the years to come. In kindergarten it is especially important that students develop a love of reading so that they can read to learn after they have learned to read.
My Project
I am asking for good fit books to give me a classroom library suitable for kindergartners and a cart to keep all the books tidy in my smaller classroom. Having a leveled library full of quality literature is one of the building blocks for developing young readers.
The document camera will replace the need for big books and will allow students to interact more easily with our daily read alouds. Seeing the pages of the book on our large Smartboard will allow my students to focus on letter-sound correspondence and help them bring reading to life.
Students who cannot yet read benefit greatly from listening to reading. The wireless headphones will allow me to create a hassle free listening center as a station in my classroom to give students additional opportunities to hear proper fluency, expression, and pronunciation. Also, the easel will help to review our morning messages, lead our daily phonics sessions, and work with small groups.
I pour my heart and soul into my classroom but given my time and resources, I can only do so much.
My students need and deserve the best and DonorsChoose is the way I can give that to them. Our school is currently fighting to improve test scores and without the ability to read, our students won't stand a chance.
