Help Make Remote Learning Accessible for All Children!
Help me give my students headphones, dry erase boards, writing tools and the books that they need to continue attending class while learning from home.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I work at a Title I school in Brownsville, New York with a group of wonderful first grade students with a shared vision of being lifelong learners. With that said, we never imagined that temporary school closures due to COVID - 19, would extend to the end of the school year and forever change the way we live and learn.
With our new way of living and learning, many students have worked extremely hard to improve their attendance as they continue to transition to remote learning.
As such, my priority is to motivate students to attend class and ensure they have the materials needed to get the most out of learning virtually.
My Project
Student attendance is more crucial than ever during remote learning. Prior to our abrupt public school closures, most of my students were making efforts to attend school regularly. Since moving to remote learning, my students face challenges of not having the resources to access the digital platform. Although some students are now in the process of receiving tablets; they also require traditional supplies to prepare for learning virtually. My students are in need of headphones, dry erase boards, composition books, writing tools, and books. These are just a few of the supplies they left behind when school closed.
My students will use these materials for our scheduled small group tiered intervention activities during our Google classroom meetings.
The headphones will be used to block out distractions during learning. Students will work with dry erase boards/markers while participating in language arts and mathematics. Other materials such as the composition books and pencils, will be used for completing traditional assignments and uploading their work to the digital platform. In addition, students will share leveled books and read aloud to family members/classmates as their joy for reading continues as part of their daily lives.
