Ms. Gunn from Nashville TN is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need books that they can relate to, that can catch their attention, and that can help them find a love of reading.

I have wondering eighth grade students who I would love to help mold into readers for fun, not just as a grade for class. They love to learn within the classroom and grasp onto information that is interesting to them. I want to help them find this interest in books through different forms of fiction, as well as biographies.
I have seen students light up when they find a book that they enjoy or a genre that is interesting to them.
I would like to continue to see my students light up when they find a wonderful book to read, and hopefully change their whole mindset about reading.
Many of my students come from low-socioeconomic backgrounds and do not have many reading materials at home. When asked about what they enjoy to read, many of them have no answer or their answer is "nothing." While students do not necessarily have to love to read, I would like for them to not hate reading. I am asking for a variety of books from different genres and mediums. While many of the books are the standard literature books, some are graphic novels. I would like to use the graphic novels for those who may not be fluid readers, but are able to read something similar to a comic book. Many of the books cater to my large African American population of students, but there are also many books from different cultures as well. Many of the books are award-winning books, and on top lists for young adult readers. For students who are new to reading for their personal pleasure, I would like to give them as many well-written books as possible with varying topics, genres, and cultures.
