Our school is a large K-5 school located in a residential neighborhood near Charleston, SC. We have been identified as a high poverty school for the past 15 years. Our poverty level has grown from 40% in 2002-2003 to 77% in 2017-2018. Our population is very transient and many of our students attend several schools within one school year.
Thousands of innovative minds are sitting on the sidelines; they are the nations' high ability, low-income children.
We want those minds to get in the game and make a difference in the world.
My Project
We want to create a Maker "R" Space Classroom in order for our students to work with technology and bring their ideas to life from a variety of tasks/issues. This space will be available to all of our classroom teachers, no matter what subject they teach. Although the majority of our items will be created using recyclable pieces from our community, we still need a few other supplies. The Makedo Cardboard construction toolkits & supplies will allow our students to more easily create their inventions.
From Junkbots to Penny Flashlights, The Makedo Cardboard toolkits & supplies will help our students to incorporate the engineering design process when faced with a task/issue and explore new ideas in our Make "R" Space.
Our Make "R" Space will allow students to create solutions to real-world problems using a variety of materials, as well as, providing a safe environment in which they can make mistakes and learn from them.
