My Students

Our school district encompasses a large area geographically but has only 228 students in grades PK-12. We live in a beautiful area of Southwest Wisconsin consisting of many hills and valleys, but with this terrain comes limited internet access and often limited family resources. Over half of our students depend on free or reduced-rate lunches.

My Project

Our school is very fortunate to have a DonorsChoose funded TeacherGeek MakerSpace cart available to students. During Covid-19 restrictions the MakerSpace cart has been an awesome source of projects for both in-person and virtual learning. We have created Rubber Band Powered Cars, Advanced Hydraulic Arm, Mini Wind Turbine to name just a few. We have investigated distance, rate and time, resistance, force and pressure.

The problem is that it comes with a limited number of tools such as wire strippers, multi-cutters, soldering kits and pliers.

This has been very difficult during the pandemic as materials cannot be shared amongst students. Looking toward the future as all students return to in-person learning, we will not have enough tools and some materials to go around.
