My students need a sensory bin and math manipulatives to make our learning more hands-on.

Each morning, my students greet me with a smile and a high five! My kindergarteners come in excited and ready to learn each day.
We are a Title I funded school and 100% of our students receive free and reduced priced lunch.
It is hard, and sometimes impossible, to imagine the things that some of these kiddos experience each day. Outside factors have had a major impact on my students' abilities to focus and learn, but my students work hard to come to school every day and try their best. Maybe I'm biased, but my students are some of the most loving, kind, and enthusiastic children I have ever met. They put a smile on my face every day and I am lucky to have each and every one of them.
I am currently a third grade reading and social studies teacher. I will be moving to a new school next year and will be teaching self-contained kindergarten. I have taught kindergarten in the past, but only taught reading and social studies. I am very excited for this new adventure!
Kindergarten is the time when we must teach students that learning can be enjoyable and that school is a place they want to be.
Instilling those beliefs early on is what will keep them motivated to learn and pave the way for a bright future.
The sensory bin and its top will make learning more tangible. Sensory play may calm, focus, and engage a child. Students will be encouraged to scoop, dig, measure, and sort items. The bin will also build students fine motor skills as they pick up small materials.
The math materials provide a low-pressure environment for students to practice their skills and build self-confidence. The blocks, for example, will expand the child's imagination as they follow their own plan, or share a friend’s vision and work together to create something they never dreamed of. Blocks help children learn to take turns and share materials, develop new friendships, become self-reliant, increase attention span, cooperate with others, and develop self-esteem.
