Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Earth Science to a very diverse population of students. In addition, more than half of my students belong to low income households. Despite the challenges they may face, they work really hard in my class. They inspire me daily to be the best teacher I can be for them.
My students are 11th-12th graders in a very large , diverse high school.
My students come to class everyday ready to learn something new. I try my best to make my lessons hands-on, interactive and interesting as possible.
My Project
If my project is fully funded, I will be able to create student led labs, which allows them to explore different types of fossils. They will learn to categorize fossils into original remain, replaced remains, mold, cast etc. They will be able to hold million year old specimens in their own hands, which will spark their interest in Earth Science. They will explore index fossils and construct a geologic timescale of Earth.
This will not only spark my students interest in Earth Science class, but will give them the knowledge to understand the world around them now and in the future.
They will understand Earth's past environment and be able to understand implications of future Earth.
