I teach high school English to 9th and 11th grade students. My students struggle every day to be engaged in "the canon" and it is our dream to start to build a more contemporary repertoire of literature that allows us to vary our teaching and content.

Do you remember your high school English class? My guess is we were still teaching the books we're teaching today. The thing is, while there is value in the classics, it's equally important to teach relevant, contemporary literature that engages students.

We need 40 copies of Cormac McCarthy's The Road to begin to build a more contemporary literature library for our English Department. Our budget has been slashed this year, we have old books and no budget, yet new literature is being written monthly that is brilliant and engaging. Our students need this exposure.
