My students are lion-hearted and brave. All of my students have physical handicaps and disabilities that hinder their ability to use computers and communicate the way that other students do. The ipod touch is a wonderful & interactive way to help them explore and play games they otherwise couldn't.
I have the privilege of being a Special Education teacher for students from low-income families who are both physically and cognitively impaired.
My students are so much fun. I am continuously amazed with their strength and how hard they try to interact and communicate with the world around them. My staff and I laugh daily with them. We oftentimes don't have the money in our school budget to equip them with all the tools and resources necessary to maximize their potential and fully address all of their learning needs. For my children, communication is the hardest part of their daily lives and it is through technology like the Ipod Touch that they can easily access the device and play games, explore music, communicate through symbols and feel like they are making an impact and contributing to the world around them.
My Project
The Ipod touch will help my physically disabled students explore, interact and communicate with the world around them. With its touch screen, applications with communication symbols, games and music, my students can activate a world that is oftentimes not accessible to them. For most of my students, holding a computer mouse or sitting down at a keyboard to use a computer is just not a realistic option. The Apple Ipod Touch is a revolutionary way for them to easily play and utilize a device and see the immediate results of their efforts. My students love music, they love games, they love technology and I want to do all I can to show them that they can be independent and play and use those things in creative, engaging and fun ways.
It is through generous, thoughtful and kind donors such as yourselves that children like my students, who come from a disadvantaged background, are able to have an enriching classroom environment where we do all we can to bring out their potential and create a life for them where they can do things that other children can do.
Providing an Ipod Touch for them to use with literacy, music and communication will greatly enhance their school education and quality of life.
