My students need activities for literacy and math centers such as Ready-To-Go Independent Math Activities and Reading, Science, Social Studies and Math file folder games.
Our reading/math periods begin with a whole group lesson that is followed by an hour of guided reading/math groups. Students rotate centers which provide activities that support specific objectives they need reinforcement in. We incorporate science and social studies in our reading and math lessons.
My students are bright and sweet children whom love to learn.
They are eager to please their teachers and parents. The majority of my students are behind in school and come in at the beginning of the year below grade level. My students and I work very hard to reduce the learning gap. A lot of students are affected by generational poverty.
My school is a Title I school with 98% free lunches. We open our hearts and our classrooms to give our students the best experience possible as some students struggle with basic needs being met such as food, shelter and clothing.
My Project
The file folder games and independent activities will allow students to practice skills they need reinforced in reading, math, science and social studies. Students will be engaged in learning while having fun. Students will rotate during guided reading or math periods to different stations while the teacher is working with a small group. They will learn a multitude of skills such as inferencing, comprehension, main idea, summary in reading, place value, fractions, graphing in math, states of matter in science and community, goods, and maps in social studies just to name a few.
This project will improve my classroom by giving students an opportunity to practice newly acquired skills during their guided reading/math periods.
It will change the way students think about learning as they will have fun while learning, which creates more engagement and ultimately increases what they retain. Students will use their hands to manipulate the file folder games and pieces, which further aides the learning process as many are tactile learners.
