I am blessed to teach and love 18 precious third-graders in rural North Carolina. We are a second-year Title 1 charter school where the majority of our students do not have the resources nor opportunities that their peers in more affluent counties have. They have been through so much this year, with Hurricane Florence devastating their county and many finding themselves displaced. Yet, through it all, they have remained resilient - coming in each day with a smile and a kind word for each other. They are truly extraordinary and deserving of assistance.
At Emereau school, we ILLUMINATE to embark. We INVESTIGATE to discover. We INNOVATE to transform. We CULTIVATE to sustain. We CELEBRATE to thrive. Realizing the potential within us, we GRADUATE!
My students' reading and math scores run the gamut from first grade to fourth grade.
In order to try to level the playing field for my students, I am aiming to move closer to 1:1 technology for them. I currently have 5 devices for 18 students. The excitement they have when it is their turn to use the devices breaks my heart that I cannot offer technology to all. I even have students that do not have access to technology at home. How wonderful it would be to be able to enrich their learning with technology in the classroom! I recently received a grant for Reflex Math, and my students are loving it! To keep the grant, each student has to log-in for a certain amount of time each week. With only 5 devices, we are struggling to reach the amount of time required weekly, and these tablets could make all the difference. In addition, we utilize several reading apps that are fostering a love of reading for these under-served children.
